Refections on driving a Caterham 7 to Mt. Baw Baw during Christmas 2008.
Hi Gavin
You are absolutely right - after driving your Caterham 7 (Audrey) I would agree she does not under-steer
I can vouch for this as I made a small mistake on the Blatt
I am sure other drivers on the Blatt experienced the same thing
With the low sun and shadows, made driving from dark to light difficult at times
It also made reading the constantly changing road direction challenging at times
I remember coming up a slope quickly and there was a hard left but I didnt see until I was on top of it
There was a smaller track dead ahead, and initially I thought thats where I am going
WRONG, I needed to turn hard left real quick
I realised that the position of the car was wrong when I was just entering the bend
I also realised I was going too quick
I quickly dabbed the brake hard but not enough to lock the brakes, turned in extra hard and Audrey just sailed round the corner without out skidding or making any unwanted noises
Any other car would under-steered and carried on I explained this to Scott when we got back home and he was unaware anything had unsettled the car or I had made any mistake
I am very impressed with Audrey behaving flawlessly
I am also convinced a live axle 7 with narrower tyres may have not produce the same results
The De-Dion Axle must impart extra grip in these situations by optimsing the tyre contact area
The choice of tyres really suit the car
You can have ticks in all the boxes for effort
As I have said before Adurey is a very polite car, and so much fun to drive.
