In late 2010, Len and I decided to build a 26R replica using most of the mechanical components from our old yellow S4 race car which we had been running in CSCA events in NSW.
We purchased a new lightweight 26R body and chassis from UK and proceeded to gather together all the bits to build an S2 26R.
We had the body painted by Bruce Hopper in Bega using Glasurit Lotus British Racing green A63 and Lotus Saffron yellow B106 for the stripes.
The result looks terrific.
We fitted our old 200hp twin cam following a freshen up by myself. Future plans are to fit an alloy BDG block with new SAS twin cam head and twin DCOE 48 Italian carbs.
The machining is in progress at the moment and we expect to be running the new engine in a couple of months when I get a chance to put it together.
At the moment, the car weighs 586kgs on the road with all fluids and a full tank of fuel.
I expect that to drop to 566kg with the new twin cam.
I have fitted front AR and rear NR callipers with a balance bar setup as per original.
All suspension is as was original, front and rear including rear roll bar, which we are finding makes the car tend to oversteer, so it is currently disconnected!
Len has competed in 3 meetings this year and has won our class 3 times by a considerable margin.
I still have more development planned as we aren't yet quite as quick as expected.
He is finding the car fairly twitchy at present and I am experimenting with alignment to achieve more grip and stability.
We are running 205/60-13 Kumho V700 tyres as was the old car.
