QUESTION
Found my otter switch in the luggage compartment the other week whilst I was carrying out some routine maintenance on my Lotus Esprit S3
I found the red button on the top had popped out after one of the radiator fans stopped running.
So what does the red thing that sticks out do?
Is it a combined relay switch, whats its function?

ANSWER
The Otter switch with the red button, is usually located in the left hand side of the front luggage compartment.
The switch is the current over-load switch for the radiator cooling fans in the event of one of them stalling or unable to rotate.
If a cooling fan is jammed and fails to rotate, it will draw excessive current (which is undesirable) and cause the red button to pop up.
After the fault has been rectified, the red button maybe depressed allowing the current trip to be reset and all three fans operate again.
