QUESTION
I need a valve to control (on or off) the water flow from the engine to the heater in my Lotus Elan +2.
I don't have one at present.
Where do they fit and how are they controlled?

ANSWER
The Lotus Elan +2 in standard form does not have a control valve that can be turned off so as to prevent the coolant circulating around the heater matrix.
This does not usually present problems in the northern hemisphere as the climate tends to be cooler.
However this can make life uncomfortable on a hot day in Australia where the ambient temperature can exceed 35 degrees Centigrade.
Operating the dashboard controls for the heater simply opens and closes flaps located within the heater box (does not turn hot water off)
There are two solutions to this problem -
1) Install a cable controlled valve at the thermostat housing
2) Install a simple manually controlled valve in the heater matrix feed hose
Lotus Marques can supply either of these valves to solve this problem
