I was wondering why Lotus Marques offers two different size gearbox mounting spacers at 11mm and 17mm?
I have the 11mm and wondered if they were correct for a 4 speed S3 SE.

ANSWER
The 11mm spacers are the standard size as originally fitted to the Lotus Elan S3 and S4.
The 17mm spacers are intended for gearbox installations where Elan owners have 711M blocks and the cam cover is close or touching the underside of the bonnet.
Lifting the back of the gearbox with a thicker spacer moves the cam cover downwards slightly and away from the bonnet.
