QUESTION
I'm considering advancing the intake cam to 101 MOP (currently, I have 104 int/104 exh MOP).
That would advance the intake cam centre-line +1.5 degree and slightly increase the overlap (from 45 deg to 47 deg).
Have ever tried something like that?
I know other individuals have been experimenting with different cams and MOP where the exhaust cam has been advanced to 110MOP to reduce detonation in modified engines.

ANSWER
It is unwise to alter the camshaft timing on your turbo-charged Esprit with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection
Several years ago an 88 Lotus Esprit HCi sent to Lotus Marques from Queensland, Australia that would not run properly
Someone had made up offset keys to change the camshaft timing
If you introduce more overlap then you will affect the low end torque and this is apparent on a dyno
As mention before, your Esprit HCi engine is not suitable to modify without installing an after-market fuel injection and ECU with a knock sensor
Changing the camshaft timing ONLY is not going to result in a significant increase in engine power.
