QUESTION
I have recently installed the clutch slave cylinder I purchased from Lotus Marques but I am experiencing bleeding problems.
When I push the clutch pedal all the way down for the first time, it is soft.
However after a few repeated pumps of the clutch pedal goes to normal pressure but only for a short time.
I think it is air on the clutch master outlet cylinder loop line going down to the slave cylinder.
After a number of attempts, I can not get the trapped air cleared **if that the issue*** ??..
Could there be other issues causing this..
Your input would be much appreciated..

ANSWER
From what you describe, there is air trapped in the line and/or the slave cylinder.
Best way to displace this is to pump the clutch pedal 4 or 5 times until pedal pressure is established.
On the last stroke of the pedal, the pedal should be held down on the floor so it is fully depressed.
The next step, you will need an assistant underneath the Elan to bleed the slave cylinder.
This needs to be carried out carefully - the nipple should be opened very slowly as the cylinder is under pressure.
Before opening the bleed nipple, one end of a clear plastic hose should be connected to the nipple and the other end should be submursed in a jar containing a small amount hydraulic fluid.
The jar and clear plastic hose are required to complete the bleeding operation (preventing air being allowed back into the cylinder)
Alternatively there are number of commercially available clutch/brake bleeding solutions that can be used.
This sequence should be repeated until all the air is removed and a constant firm pedal pressure is obtained.
