QUESTION
I have just replaced the rear wheel bearings plus seals in a 1982 Lotus Eclat and I have a question.
Is their an appropriate torque setting for the castle nut that holds the wheel stud hub on?
I have found nothing in the Lotus workshop manual.

ANSWER
The recommened torque setting for the castle nut is 200ft/lbs.
The nut should initially be tightened to this setting and the slots checked to see if they line up with the split pin hole in the axle.
If the castle nut slots do not line up so the pin can easily be installed, then the nut should be continued to be tightened until the next convenient location where the pin can be inserted.
