From the above engineering drawing, it can be seen this flywheel has been machined to accept the later crankshaft that has a six bolt fixing and lip seals.
This same configuration flywheel may be supplied to suit the earlier crankshaft that has a four bolt fixing and rope seals.
It is also possible to supply lightweight flywheels to accept various race clutch packs supplied by AP Racing and Tilton.
The smaller the diameter the clutch packs, the lighter we can manufacture a suitable flywheel.
These light weight flywheels are carefully manufactured in Australia using Okuma CNC machining technologies.
The above flywheel is a direct replacement for the standard Lotus Twin Cam and has a finished weight of 4.9 Kilograms.
This light weight flywheel accepts the original Borg and Beck clutch cover plus the standard 205mm diameter friction plate (driven plate).
A similar flywheel is also available to accommodate a 215mm diameter friction plate.
This result in an ideal weight where the flywheel can be installed in a race engine but still idle at 800rpm and not tear the engine mounts to pieces.
The steel flywheel to the left in the above photograph has been machined to suit a Cosworth 12 bolt crankshaft.
The clutch fastening detail is for a Tilton or AP Racing clutch.
The light weight steel flywheel to the right in the above photograph has been machined to suit a Ford or Lotus Twin Cam 6 bolt crankshaft.
The clutch fastening detail is for a 215mm diameter Borg and Beck clutch pack.
The flywheel to the left in the above photograph is the standard component that suits a Ford or Lotus Twin Cam 6 bolt crankshaft.
The clutch fastening detail is for a 215mm diameter Borg and Beck clutch pack.
The steel flywheel to the right in the above photograph is a modified component that suits a modified L16 or L18 Datsun 5 bolt crankshaft.
The clutch fastening detail is for a 215mm diameter Borg and Beck clutch pack.
The steel flywheel to the left in the above photograph is a modified component that suits a modified L16 or L18 Datsun 5 bolt crankshaft.
The clutch fastening detail is for a standard Ford Escort clutch pack.
The steel flywheel to the right in the above photograph is a steel billet that is semi-finished and can be quickly CNC machined to suit customer specifications.
After many years of building various Lotus engines, we have produced numerous engineering drawings for steel flywheels.
The photographs above are just a small selection of what is possible to manufacture.
Lotus Marques offers a custom design facilities for steel flywheels to suit any Lotus engine.
As a general rule, the smaller diameter the clutch pack, the easier it is to manufacture light weight flywheels by incorporating radial lightening slots into the design.
