Europa owners now have a choice of radiator fan switch that they can install in their vehicle.
The standard unit operates by turning the electric fan motor on at 92 degrees Centigrade and then turning the fan off once the water temperature cools to 82 degrees Centigrade.
Lotus Marques offers this component as a direct replacement part for the now obsolete switch (Lotus part number X046K6009Z).
This same switch is available in three different temperature specifications and is suitable for various installations.
The standard type switch allows the engine to operate at higher temperatures and is recommended for cooler climates such as the UK.
The alternative switches operating at lower temperatures are recommended for racing applications and hotter climates such as Australia.
- Weight - 60 grams
- Main body material - Brass
- Threaded section β Metric
- Electrical connectors β Standard ΒΌβ blade connectors
- Switch type A - Fan turns on at 92 degrees Centigrade and fan turns off at 82 degrees Centigrade
- Switch type B - Fan turns on at 88 degrees Centigrade and fan turns off at 77 degrees Centigrade
- Switch type C - Fan turns on at 82 degrees Centigrade and fan turns off at 68 degrees Centigrade
Installation is straightforward, as no modifications are required.
The switch should be installed in the side of the Europa radiator per the workshop manual.
Functional checks should be carried out to ensure the switch operates correctly when the engine reaches the upper and lower temperatures.
This same switch may be used as a conversion to successfully replace the thermostatic switch used in the Lotus Elan and Elan +2.
However this does require a brass adapter to be soft soldered into the radiator so as to provide the correct female thread.
