The robust 2000E gearbox was manufactured by the Ford Motor Company with four forward gears and a three rail selector mechanism.
The gearbox comprises of a cast iron main casing and extension housing that usually bolts to cast iron bell housing (Ford part number 105E-7505B which weighs in at 17.16lbs)
On the front of the gearbox there is a small housing that supports a bearing and input shaft that has 7/8" x 20 spline.
There are after-market light weight alloy bell-housings, extension housings and remote changers to reduce weight.
There are a number of gearbox variants that allows the gear lever to emerge in the correct position as in the Lotus 7.
The common reference "Bullet gearbox" refers to to the three rail, close ratio gearboxes fitted with Quaife straight cut gears for racing applications.
The common reference "Ford 2000E gearbox" refers to the Ford Corsair 2000E where the close ratio gearbox was originally sourced from.
The three rail gearbox internal components are common apart from the gear set ratios.
