Lotus Elan +2 internal sill replacements for 050BA0002RH and 050B0002LH
Both the Elan and Elan +2 share a similar stressed steel skin chassis.
The signature for this is a large rectangular box section that runs through the central tunnel area which conceals the prop-shaft.
Despite sharing a similar chassis, both the Elan and Elan +2 require additional strengthening hidden within the body.
The Elan has a reinforced steel rod ladder frame bonded into the fibre-glass body.
This bonded ladder frame spans the entire length of the body immediately below the lower part of the door aperture.
The Elan +2 has a steel box section that spans the entire length of the lower sill and is conveniently secured between the floor-pan and external fibre-glass body.
Unfortunately the steel box sections are prone to corrosion and can cause interference problems when the doors are opened or closed.
It is recommended that the condition of both steel box sections be checked as a part of any pre-purchase inspection.
If you do discover the steel sills need replacing, then Lotus Marques is here to help you with a comprehensive kit.
The kit has been carefully designed and constructed to produce a high quality turn-key solution.
The two piece steel sill section has been drawn using SOLIDWORKS® 3DCAD software.
This 3D CAD software is now an industry standard and is used in the design and engineering phases of manufacturing.
This powerful tool has allowed the sill assemblies (complete with mounting plates and fasteners) to be modelled on screen.
The modelling process provides an opportunity to check all the parts prior to laser cutting, folding and welding.
The main two piece sill section is made from Zinc seal steel sheet and spot-welded the entire length to maximise Torsional strength.
Zinc steel sheet was chosen for its ease of bending, corrosion resistant coating and surface ability to accept a high quality paint finish.
Additional corrosion protection has been provided by powder coating the entire sill section.
The kit contains the following components-
1) Right-hand sill section complete with captive nuts for internal mounting plates
2) Right-hand sill section complete with captive nuts for internal mounting plates
3) Internal mounting plates (pre-drilled), quantity 6
4) Fastener kit including bolts and washers for internal mounting plates, quantity 24
5) Fastener kit including screws, nuts, washers for external body fastening, quantity 22
6) Installation guide
The CAD drawing below shows the right-hand sill assembly complete with internal mounting plates.
In addition to this, the captive nuts are shown where the mounting plates are to be fastened.
Hidden detail of both jacking points is also shown along with relevant welding details.
Below is a photograph is a custom wooden crate containing a pair of steel sills being shipped to Mark Roberts in Western Australia
Pricing for the sill sections, internal mounting plates and fastener kits is $650.00 excluding GST
Pricing is correct as of 26/12/2023
