Anyone carring out a a Lotus Elan restoration and is anticipating rebuilding the Ford 2000E gearbox will need to look closely at the condition of all the components.
If the speedo pedestal needs replacing then its wise to measure the pedestal and mating right-angle drive thread.
From experience it can be one of two different thread sizes which are 3/4" x 26tpi or 7/8" x 18tpi
Lotus Marques has remanufactured both types of speedo pedestals as shown below.
The above photograph shows the 3/4" diameter aluminium alloy speedo pedestal
The above photograph shows the 7/8" diameter aluminium alloy speedo pedestal
These high quality pedestals have been manufactured using an Okuma CNC machine.
The design has been subtly improved by introducing a 3mm radius at the top and bottom of the centre section.
The 3mm radius imparts additional strength to the component so as to prevent fatigue failure.
