Any Lotus Esprit owner who has a charge cooled engine will most like tell you how awkward it is to rebuild the all important pump.
The charge cooler pump is located up underneath the inlet manifold and is driven by the oil pump drive shaft.
When Lotus deleted the distributor and migrated to the DELCO engine management system, this left a convenient position available to connect the mechanical charge cooler pump.
This brought about a cheap but compact pump that was driven proportionally to engine speed.
The pump design is a positive displacement pump that simply drop in the same location as the original mechanical distributor.
However the pump employs a rubber vane impellor that has a short service life.
This situation has lead to the development of relacement electric pump that is more reliable.

The above kit comprises of the following components -

This kit has been carefully developed so the hoses may be reused without cutting or any modification.
Care has been taken to locate the electric pump at a similar height as the original mechanical pump so the charge cooler system is self priming.
The original short section of hose between the original mechanical pump and the charge cooler is simply discarded.
A new hose connects between the male inlet on the charge cooler and the outlet on the new electric pump.
This completes the component installation but the air needs to be bled from the system per the Lotus Service Manual.

The above kit comprises of the following components -
- 12v DC high performance pump
- Custom mounting that simply bolts to an existing hole in the rear gearbox cross member (no drilling required)
- Aluminium alloy blanking plug and rubber O-ring for mechanical pump location
- Laser cut clamping plate for the alloy blanking plug
- Short length of rubber hose
- Clamps for rubber hose
