Blatt Chat … where we you can read interesting and intelligent writings about Lotus cars.
Hi and Welcome Lotus Fanatics.
Ok… Well … I assume a number of you looking may not be lotus “fanatics”, but just general car fanatics, so ….errr …. Anyway …I hope Lotus owners and friends are going to drop by, but hey, a general car fanatic is fine by me. If you are into knitting and sewing buttons on cushions, then I think you have found the wrong web site … sorry ….. or, really, you would not have progressed this far into reading my tripe anyway and in one click you would be back at GOOGLE typing in some other boring search title….…. So not to worry then … I can rabble on as much as I want about automotive glory etc etc etc.
General car fanatics and Lotus fanatics you are welcome.
Mmmmmm ….Maybe you hate Lotus cars altogether, (what are you really doing here?) or maybe you are just some nuff nuff looking for a good story …so you have something to talk about at dinner with your stuffy fellow BMW friends.
I can see it now, you were at dinner last week, and the conversation was not coming your way, so in a moment of verbal silence from your overweight peers, ......during your sorbet course between entree and your mains ...., you thought you would raise the subject of alcantara vs. real suede. ?? ..... "Really Derek !! ..."?
Silence!
Ha ....You felt awkward, right, and went red. (Not a good sight), and they didn’t include you in the cigars and Brandy afterwards did they.
Poor boy. (It’s got to be a boy, only blokes’ talk and do stuff like this).
To rebuild your status you have gone hunting for a good story on the net about another car brand that is seen as, well, poorly by your friends (can we call them friends?). And that’s how you ended up here. "LOTUS" ....GOOGLE again ….
You probably have a 3 series right? And are dining with those you aspire to be ..... they all own a 5 series, ....right ?.
Now, just so we don’t start getting a whole heap of hate mail, let me be clear, BMW’s are fine cars, well made, drive well, doors shut with a solid thud and the M series cars are to die for. (Sorry ....I mean they might kill you if you are not capable of handling all that extreme power)
The problem with these German taxis is the pseudo status they appear to imply upon the owner/s. And generally, the owners all gradually fall in line with the spinning propeller corporate policy, and become nuff nuffs to their level of ownership.
Entry level “BMW status” of ...“I am a rich bugger, but just got here by the skin of my teeth” ....is a 3 series. (De-badged cars are all lower ranked 3 series cars, now hidden by there owners who are dreadfully sorry they could not get the better badged car, but will try harder next time).
Next level of “BMW Status” is “I am comfortably rich”, but …….they could end up in the foetal position under their our desk, rocking backwards and forwards sucking their thumb when the Dow Jones suddenly goes out to lunch ....and does not come back” ....this ..of course, is middle management upwards ……the 5 series.
The Third level of status is “I got here walking over the top of you/ or / I was born walking over the top of you, so please remove your grizzly remains from the soles of my Baldinini loafers before I sue you for trespassing” is of course..... the 7 series owner.
You then have this weird collection of other levels of status as the cars age ... and move through time ....
What I mean is, when you can buy a 12 year old 7 series for under 10k your owner “wants” to toe the line and fit the above 7 series description, but he not wearing Baldinin, he has on some $20 vinyl el cheepo pair from Target ...and his Chinese rip off Rolex has just started to loose its gold around its edges, and no longer actually works.
Z3 and 4’s are another story altogether (I will cover them another time)
The 8 series was a prank by the board of directors at BMW on those unaware high flyers in top management who thought they were in the right car ....the 7 series ...... when all of a sudden there was an 8 series ..... "WHAT" ... which made BMW and some Occupational health and safety physiatrists’ a truck load of money while it lasted.
Anyway, welcome to you as well, because the plan is to have a heap of stories here on everything and anything automotive.
Errrrr …. Any BMW fanatic’s …. My apologies …. I actually owned a BMW Mini .....(Sorry that should be written as MINI … otherwise bmw will send me some serious letter written by some guy who drives a 7 series {read above}) … it was a Cooper S ..and I loved it …so don’t feel toooo bad … I just thought I would attack you in my first scrawling’s … so don’t fret , I will anger a few more marques very soon …
PS ... I actually love all cars .... just highlighting the dangers of some brands over others. So if you don't fall into the above as an owner of a BMW, thats good, as it means you are fighting the trend .... good carry on .... well done ....just be aware ... and notice the tell tale signs if they appear .... good luck with your job search by the way ... being redundant is all part of the modern age BTW ...
