The Elan is a 1968 FHC, imported new by Geoghan's. It was originally yellow in colour. It spent most of its life in the Illawarra region of NSW, before moving to Tasmania for a while, then returned to the Illawarra
- all with lady owners - one of which turned it red.
It then found a male owner who enjoyed some club-sport work in it. The engine was rebuilt by Bob Holden to Big Valve spec and the diff changed to a 4.1.
The next owner had greater motorsport plans which never materialised, and so sold it to a collector who intended to return it to the original yellow.
Due to lack of time and planning the car found its way into the back corner of the collection where it sat parked in for over seven years in airconditioned stasis, until I came along and was made an offer to buy I could not refuse.
It went home on the back of a truck (and it rained hard all the way - the first time the Elan was wet in over eight years). After being unloaded into my garage it was up on blocks to be checked over. The front and rear windscreens needed new rubbers (came with the car) and the driver's door need a new seal (which you supplied!). The fuel tank had to come out for the fuel gauge sender to be refurbished.
The enigine turned over by hand well enough, so all the fluids were changed, the carbs (they're webers despite the "bulge") were primed, a small prayer was said and after seven silent years the car started!! It is fitted with Luminition so no points to worry about. The only other things I have replaced are tyres, clutch slave rubbers and some brake lines (the previous owner by-passed the booster!?).
It is very original, right down to the original AM radio, although it has rectangular "pancake" style aircleaners which are to go as soon as I can source/fabricate an airbox.
Of course I would be chuffed to see her on your website!!
Cheers, EJ
