QUESTION
I am about to replace the damaged radiator fan shroud on my Lotus Esprit S3.
Is it possible to replace the radiator fan shroud with radiator in place?
J.G. - Western Australia
ANSWER
It maybe possible, but from experience it is far easier to remove the radiator and fan shroud as a complete unit.
Its a very tight fit up underneath the body and it would be prudent to have someone to assist you during the removal process.
The fixing bolts pass through the body, then the shroud and then finally are secured by captive nuts located in the radiator outer steel surround.
There are two fixing bolts either side, one is access underneath the headlamp motor in the front luggage compartment and the other is located in the front section of the wheel-arch.
Once the four bolts are removed, the radiator hoses removed and fans unplugged, the complete assembly can be gently lowered away from the body.
