QUESTION
I’ve an intermittent fuel leak on my Lotus Elan S1 when starting from cold with or without the choke
Is it possible, after cranking the engine for 30secs to get it started from cold, for the carburettors to get super saturated and dump excess fuel?
When I’ve started the engine from warm, I’ve looked at the pump and the hose connections when the engine is running and can see no sign of leaks
I notice that if I put my weight on the air box the engine and press down on the airbox the revs increase a bit - is this a problem?

ANSWER
I'm disadvantage trying to make an accurate diagnosis with out being able to see your fuel line and carburettors
When you say the carburettors get saturated- is this on top or underneath?
If its on top then you should check and adjust the carburettor float levels
If its underneath then you should check the banjo bolts that fasten the fuel hose to each carburettor
If you experience an increase in engine speed by moving the air box up and down then its advisable to change the rubber O-rings in the flexible mounts (these are located between the carburettors and inlet manifold)
