QUESTION
I own a Jensen Healey with a Lotus 907 engine and recently I purchased some of your cam cover gaskets
However, recently I found an oil leak was between the cam housing and cylinder head.
Originally the Lotus Factory used a thin paper gasket between the cam housing and cylinder head.
Do I just use solvent Excelerator and Loctite 512?
S.B. - New Jersey, USA
ANSWER
You have a large task ahead of you and the key to a sucessful result is the mating surfaces of the cam housing and cylinder head to be spotlessly clean (free from oil film)
Lotus deleted the paper gasket originally located between the cylinder head and cam housing then resorted to high performance sealant manufactured by Loctite
I recommend Loctite Primer/cleaner 7471 and then apply a thin film of Loctite 510 (high temperature rating up to 200 degrees Centigrade)
