QUESTION.
I recently purchased a set of urethane suspension bushes for the outer pick up points on my Elan rear "A frame" and they are too long.
I have read on a forum that Elan owners who have purchased the same bush have machined the alloy wheel bearing housing so the bushes will fit.
Is this the correct way to get the bushes to fit?
ANSWER.
This is totally incorrect way to install this type of bush.
The after market urethane bushes a designed to operate in a very different way and some manufacturers include a flange at one end of the bush
This flange is intended to stop the bush from moving in and out of the locating eye on the "A frame"
Whist this is a good location method it can introduce fitting problems if the flange is too thick
Check and make sure the after market bush is dimensionally correct and if it is not, then return it to the manufacturer with a request to rectify the problem
