QUESTION.
I am looking at buying a Lotus twin cam Escort with a leaking pump and wanted a worse case cost to replace the pump if needed.
I am told by those supposedly in the know...that this means removing the engine and gearbox etc just to get to the pump?
I can appreciate that it is impossible to expect you to give any, even rough price on this without inspecting the problem.
Some indication of worst case would give me an idea on whether to purchase this car.
ANSWER.
You have two options, either remove the cylinder head and drop the sump or pull the complete engine out of the vehicle
To do this properly you need to remove the engine, that way you have full access the sump pan and reseal it so it does not leak
For us to do this job you would be looking at 1.5 to 2 days labour providing there are no other problems
Lotus Marques suggests extra time be allocated to this type of job.
Our experience shows that other items will need attention or replacing as this job progresses
