QUESTION.
I am currently looking at purchasing a Lotus twin cam big valve cylinder head and I am not sure what to look for to make sure this is actually a "big valve" cylinder head.
ANSWER.
if you look in the spark plug well that runs the full length of the head, you will notice a raised circular platform in front of No.1 spark plug
If you look on top of the platform you will see a Z or N depending on how you view the letter (from the front or from the side)
The standard Lotus twin cam head is 4.640" thick with a compression ratio of 9.5:1
Big valve twin cam head is 4.600" thick with a compression ratio of 10.35:1
