QUESTION.
Do you have any ideas on paints that can resist/stop crazing at all from your experience?
I read that the Lotus fiberglass moves and this causes the crazing so maybe somewhere some German company has a durable yet flexible paint?
J.G. - Perth, Western Australia
ANSWER.
I am not sure where you are reading about glass-fibre repairs and paint moving
This ONLY ever occurs if the repairs are not carried out correctly
Fine tissue should be applied to all of the repair area after the major damage has been rectified.
If large amounts of filler are used then this will promote shrinkage and movement - do not use bog
With all the restorations we have carried out here never had any problems with the repairs or paint jobs - no shrinkage or movement
However, there were extended periods of time between glass repairs and successive paint layer applications
The key to this process is to allow plenty of time for the various solvents to be driven off before applying another coating - this applies to both glass-fibre and paint
Glasurit or Dulux paints are the highly recommended

We have experienced good results with both products
Lotus Marques can recommend books written by professionals if you require further information about repairing glass-fibre
