QUESTION.
I am restoring a Lotus Elan +2 where the bonnet will not close.
The top front section of the cam cover hits the underneath of the bonnet.
Can you tell me how to fix this problem?
L.H. - New Zealand
ANSWER.
First, check and see you have the correct Ford type engine mountings installed and they are both the same.
Check your mountings against the drawings and photographs in the engine mount data sheet in the technical section of ths web site.
If the engine mounts are the correct type, then check that the spacers between the gearbox and the gearbox cross member have been installed.
The standard steel spacers that are 1" diameter and 0.400" thick
It is possible to install thicker spacers of 0.750" thick to increase the clearance between the cam cover and bonnet.
Lotus Marques can supply thicker spacers from stock - see gearbox parts section on this web site
