QUESTION.
Been thinking about the possibility of buying an Lotus Elise S2 when in the UK over the next 12 months.
I'm there in late March and was thinking of taking look at an S2 Type 49 for 12500 pounds.
Of course that would mean Rover engine and no air-con.
Should I save my money and purchase 111S Toyota motor and air-conditioning spec only if I intend to bring it back?
S.M. - Melbourne
ANSWER.
If you are really committed to bringing back an Elise from the UK then make sure -
1) It has absolutely NO winter road salt corrosion
2) Preferred Elise model choice would be a Toyota engine with air-conditioning so try and stretch your budget.
3) Look into the hidden costs such as - insurance, freight, duty, customs clearance, engineering compliance, BEFORE you jump.
Be sure to contact the Department for Transport and Infrastructure in Canberra to check if its OK to import your Elise
You will also need to determine which rules are applicable to your import circumstances

Whilst the prices look good and the exchange rate is in our favour, its still an expensive exercise bringing Lotus vehicles to Australia.
