QUESTION
I want to buy a pinion and bearing kit for a Lotus Esprit S1 steering rack.
The original bearings are about 40mm od. and 14.5mm id.
The pinion is 14.5mm diameter at the bearing races.
I tried to get bearings from a Lotus supplier but they were 5mm smaller and could not be used.
I can send photos of the parts to see if you have a suitable replacement set?
It is a LHD Burman rack #SA-01-066 with a date code of 4F 77.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER
The Lotus Esprit steering rack pinion bearings are actually 39.60mm (1.600") on the outside diameter
The internal diameter of the inner race is 14.5mm
These bearings should be a snug fit in the standard alloy housing
You might want to double check the bore size as you have provided a 40mm measurement for the bearing outer diameter
If you have the standard Lotus Esprit steering rack, then the bearing conversion kit supplied by Lotus Marques will fit correctly
Whilst operating a dedicated Lotus workshop for the last 20 years, we have successfully rebuilt numerous steering racks using the same components
The new pinion and bearings can be viewed at the following Lotus Marques web site page
