QUESTION.
I'm interested in your tandem brake master cylinder for an Lotus Elan +2.
Could you confirm that the bore of 0.7" is aimed at allowing the brake servo to be removed from the system?
To install this unit in place of my existing single circuit master cylinder and brake servo, I would just need to bolt it in place of the existing master cylinder, replace the copper brake pipes, and remove the servo.
Is this correct?
I am nearing the end of a restoration so this is relatively straightforward for me, but I need to be sure that there will not be a lot of adaptation to do.
Also, could you let me have a price for the kit and for shipping to the UK?
Or perhaps you have a uk agent?
S.C. - UK
ANSWER.
Lotus Marques does not recommend the modifications you are proposing.
It would be advisable to contact your insurance company and discuss this modification before removing the remote brake servo
The only approved way to install a tandem system on an Elan +2 is with two remote servos (per the Federal spec Lotus Elan +2)
Any substantial modification away from the original brake system design needs engineering certification either by Lotus or a consulting engineer approved by the UK road authorities
However, if the vehicle is to be used for track purposes then its another matter.
