QUESTION
Recently Lotus Marques supplied me with two large inner wheel bearings and metal seals for my Lotus Elan +2.
I can see where these go ,but does this require a clearance between its ID (internal diameter) and the OD (outside diameter) of the shoulder on the shaft.
This shoulder on my shafts is 1.428 " OD ,so the seal is a tap on fit to the shafts.

ANSWER
The metal seals (Lotus part number X036D0151Z) for the inner wheel bearings need approximately 0.005" clearance from the shoulder to the outboard drive-shaft.
I suggest you machine 0.010" off the diameter of the shoulder using a lathe.
Removing this small amount of material should provide adequate clearance between the shaft and seal.
