QUESTION
I spoke to you last week and you were telling me about setting up the rear shocks on my Lotus Elan +2.
From my description you said they were possibly Koni ( top thread 16mm )
Could you please provide the procedure for adjusting them and the best average setting for fast road use.

ANSWER
If you have Koni rear adjustable shock absorbers, then its possible to manually adjust the internal foot valve.
This is achieved by holding the shock absorber insert in the vertical position, then press the chrome plated damper shaft downwards until it bottoms out.
Next, gradually turn the shaft in an anti-clock-wise direction whilst applying gentle downwards pressure.
As the shaft is rotated it should drop down and engage in the valve key slot.
Once the key valve slot has been engaged, the shaft should be rotated fully anti-clock-wise until the shaft stops.
For new Koni shock absorbers and fast road driving, Lotus Marques recommends rotating the shaft in a clock-wise direction until three distinctive clicks are felt on the valve ratchet mechanism.
For used Koni shock absorbers and fast road driving, it maybe necessary to rotate the shaft in a clock-wise direction more than three clicks to compensate for valve wear.
Be aware that some experimentation of settings maybe necessary to obtain the personal desired ride quality.
NOTE - Further adjustment is not going to be possible once the shock absorber is fully installed in the vehicle.
