QUESTION
I am assembling the front suspension upright, hub and brake disc on my Lotus Elan +2.
Regarding the 4 bolts that bolt the front disc to the hub (3/8 x 7/8 ) do these have spring washers, Loctite ,or what ??
L.H. - New Zealand
ANSWER
The hub bolts do not have washers but its recommended to use a small amount of Loctite 234 on the threads.
The four 3/8" UNF bolts should be torqued to 32 - 35lb/ft (4.4 - 4.8kg/m).
Prior to final assembly, make sure the disc and hub contact faces are free from corrosion and spotlessly clean.
Once the hub assembly is installed onto the stub axle, check and make sure the brake disc runs true when turned.
This check should be carried out by attaching a dial gauge to a magnetic base that is mounted on the brake caliper.
When the disc is rotated on the stub axle, the amount of run-out should not exceed 0.006" (0.152 mm) total indicator reading.
This measurement should be made at 0.500" (12.7mm) inwards from the outer edge of the disc.
