QUESTION
Hello. a friend suggested I visit the Lotus Marques web site due to my Lotus Esprit having a problem with ABS
For a while, the ABS light would come on occasionally but now, as soon as the car is started and I put my foot on the brake, the warning light comes on.
I can hear the pump running when I press the pedal.
The main dealer here has just lost the one guy that knew Esprit's- the rest are kids only knowing Elise & Exige.

ANSWER
The best way to accurately identify the problem, is to connect a pressure gauge to the high pressure hydraulic system.
By doing this it is possible to determine if the high pressure pump is developing low pressure, faulty accumulator or faulty high pressure switch.
There is a pattern emerging where the most likely parts that give problems are the switch and/or the accumulator.
It is a straight forward exercise to construct the test rig/gauge assembly shown in the Lotus service manual that covers the Delco Moraine ABS IIIA.
