![]() Tesla motors has unveiled their Elise-based Electric Vehicle. They're expecting the Tesla to sell for $100,000 with soft top, base paint and one rapid charge station. The torque curves give a strong hint as to the performance: http://www.teslamotors.com/ Note that like all EVs, there is 100% torque available at 0 RPM. Tesla raised $60 million and has spent $25 million of that on the roadster development. It has 2 gears (shifting into second at 65mph in order to get maximum acceleration to that point). Zero to 60 in four seconds. Range of 250 miles. Power equivalent to 248 hp (185 kilowatts). Runs at 360 volts Equivalent mileage is 150 mpg. Production hopes are about the same number as the Elise is these days: 4,000 to 5,000 over the first three years. They are taking orders now for delivery in mid-2007. |
