QUESTION
I was wondering if your "stainless steel clutch hose" is a complete hose from the master cylinder to slave cylinder.
If so, how does it connect to to master cylinder side.
I have seen some replacements where they have a nice U shaped bundy pipe at the master cylinder side connected to a length of braided pipe which goes to the slave cylinder.

ANSWER
The advertised stainless steel clutch hose you refer to, is a direct replacement for the original rubber component.
Lotus Marques does not recommend running a full length of stainless braided flexible hose from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder
There a number of issues doing this -
1) The most convenient route over the top of the bell-housing and it is difficult to secure the braided hose to not come into contact with the vibrating engine.
The stainless braided exterior of the hose is highly abrasive and will cut/saw into any component that it comes into contact with.
2) The route over the top of the bell-housing often means the braided hose is in close proximity of the exhaust manifold.
Concealed inside the braided jacket is a Teflon hydraulic tube and with constant heat exposure will have a shortened service life
3) The entry point to the clutch slave cylinder is restricted because of the close proximity of the exhaust manifold.
Best access to the slave cylinder is from underneath where the hose and fittings can be diverted away from the exhaust.
Lotus Marques has developed a modification that allows superior access to the slave cylinder and routes the hydraulic hose away from the heat generated by the exhaust manifold.

This clutch hose modification and a short stainless braided hose can be purchased from Lotus Marques as a kit.
This modification retains the original components and improves reliability plus allows better access when bleeding the slave cylinder.
Install one of our new clutch slave cylinders that is self-locking in position (rather than the original that rotates) and future access and maintenance is a breeze.
In addition to this, a remote clutch slave cylinder bleed nipple which includes stainless braided hose and fittings can be purchased as a kit.
This allows the slave cylinder to be bled from the engine-bay so it is no longer necessary to climb under any Lotus Elan or Elan +2 to access the bleed nipple.
