This race specification cam follower sleeve is manufactured from spheroidal cast iron that has excellent oil retention and lubrication properties.
These are slightly longer at 1.200" and provide additional support to the follower skirt when 0.500" lift cams are installed.
NOTE - The standard follower sleeve has an overall height of 1.035"
When a standard camshaft with 0.375" lift is used, the standard follower skirt usually protrudes below the bottom of the sleeve at maximum valve lift.
This inherent design problem is not immediately obvious and reduces the contact surface area which in turn accelerates cam follower wear.
The new longer sleeves alleviate this problem and does not interfere with oil returning from the cylinder head to the sump.
Assembling a Lotus twin cam cylinder head with slightly longer follower sleeves helps reduce characteristic "barrel wear" on the follower skirt.
